Over 150 years later, Dáin went to his cousin Thorin’s aid after he had reclaimed the Lonely Mountain.

His warning to Thráin to not reclaim Moria now undoubtedly saved many Dwarven lives. During this battle, Dáin single-handedly killed Azog and saw the Balrog in Moria. This battle was the last of many in the War of Dwarves and Orcs, a long and grueling campaign against the Orcs of the Misty Mountains after their leader, Azog, killed King-in-exile Thrór, Thorin Oakenshield’s grandfather. It is unknown whether or not Dáin had any other siblings.ĭáin began his career as a famous Dwarven warrior at the age of 32 (barely of age for a Dwarf) in the Battle of Azanulbizar. Through this, Dáin was related to Thorin Oakenshield and less closely related to Balin, Dwalin, Óin, and Glóin.ĭáin had a son, Thorin Stonehelm, who would later become King Under the Mountain and whose direct descendant was Durin VII, the last reincarnation of Durin the Deathless.

Durin the Deathless was the oldest of the seven Fathers of the Dwarves and those of his line, also called the Longbeards, are well-respected among the seven Dwarven clans. He was the Lord of the Iron Hills, a Dwarven stronghold in the North, and later King Under the Mountain.ĭáin was of the line of Durin through his father, Náin. An incredibly handsome Dwarf, that’s who.ĭáin II Ironfoot was the son of Náin III and cousin to Thorin Oakenshield.
